Everyday people with nothing better to do are producing harmful files that aim to destroy your data, steal information, render your computer useless, or just plain annoy the heck out of you. Especially when you are traveling abroad using internet cafes or anonymous WiFi networks, you need to protect yourself.
I have written a general protection plan for viruses and malware and another one for keylogging:
I have categorized harmful files into three general categories:
- Viruses: Destructive software that infects your computer with the intent of harming the data on it.
- Malware: Malicious software such as spyware that secretly gathers profiles and preferences to sell to others, or adware that generates unwanted advertisements on your computer.
- Keyloggers: Programs that steal important information (e.g. your banking username and password) by recording your keystrokes.
