Cameras for Travelers

As a traveler, you have a choice between a digital camera or a video camera - although many of today's cameras are capable of doing both jobs.

I have written a separate page for each of these cameras:

I've never met a traveler yet who hasn't brought along some type of camera - it seems as though this equipment is essential. What surprises me are all the travelers who are now toting along a video camera. I suppose this shouldn't be too surprising since the size, weight, and cost of them keeps dropping. On top of this, social websites allow you to share your videos at no cost with the rest of the world through the internet.

Digital still cameras and video cameras were, at one time, two distinct pieces of equipment. Sure, you could take stills with a video camera and video with a digital camera, but the quality was not there. Today this is changing as the lines of difference between these two types of cameras seem to be getting less and less distinct. The quality issues still remain but if space/weight and/or money is an issue while picture/video quality isn't, taking one camera to do both jobs is definitely an option.

The newer generation still and video cameras are all digital so the correct terms are "digital still camera" and "digital video camera" respectively. Most people refer to them simply as a "digital camera" or a "video camera". I will do the same.
